4th Generation Core Network Infrastructures (EPC/SAE/LTE)

This two-day training was designed to provide a good understanding of 4th Generation all-IP core network (SAE/EPC) for LTE/E-UTRAN based Radio Access Network (RAN). The emergence of IPv6 has laid the foundation for all future communication being rolled out on all-IP paradigm where every network node (BTS/NodeB, BSC/RNC, MME, PDG and MS) will essentially be IP-based, and all call setup signaling between these nodes will be based on IP based protocols such as SIP, Diameter, etc. This training was designed to provide a better understanding of EPS/SAE network context, its components and their roles, signaling procedures and services provisioning use cases.

Objectives:
• Technically understand the 4G Core network and it’s benefits to operators and end-users
• Describe the roles of various EPC/SAE components
• Elaborate LTE/SAE Interfaces and Protocols
• Define Session/Call Setup Signaling Procedures in EPC/SAE
• Discuss QoS, Policy, Charging and Services in EPC/SAE Network

The workshop is intended for people with background in data communications, telecom networks, IP networking, who are:
• Technical and business managers responsible for next generation network planning and deployment
• Engineers and consultants who are responsible for operating and designing network infrastructure & services
• Researchers and students seeking an in-depth understanding of next generation networks

Outline:
Day 1 (9 am – 5 pm with lunch and refreshment breaks)
• Introduction to Evolved Packet Core (EPC)
• Basic introduction to E-UTRAN/LTE (air interface for EPC/SAE networks)
• EPC/SAE Architecture (Core network requirements, EPC network entities (HSS, MME, S-GW, P-GW), EPC interfaces, protocols for SAE/EPC )
• Major functions of EPC (authentication and security, policy charging and control, QoS, packet routing, mobility management, IP address allocation)
• Functional description EPC network entities (MME, HSS, S-GW, P-GW )
• Session Setup using EPC (overall call flow, interaction between E-UTRAN and EPC)

Day 2 (9 am – 5 pm with lunch and refreshment breaks)
• Mobility management within SAE (functionality of MME node, mobility & session management, S1-MME interface with E-UTRAN and related protocol stack)
• Services in EPC/SAE & IP Multimedia Subsystems (circuit and packet switched voice , IMS architecture and nodes, IMS protocols: SIP, SDP, RTP and RTCP)
• Quality of Service (EPS default bearer, EPS dedicated bearer, bearer establishment, QoS parameters, exchange of QoS parameters between EPS and service network)
• Policy control and charging (CC in UMTS/EPS , Policy Decision Function (PDF), Charging Rules Function (CRF), Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF), services interaction, flow based charging, policy control

Registration and Course Fee:
Rs 10,000/- per person which includes cost of lectures, course material, attendee package, lunch, refreshments. About the Instructor:
Mr. Inam Ullah has multi-year experience in telecom solutions definitions, development and deployments for IMS Networks, VoIP Networks, Switching, AAA/Billing, Mobile Networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE/SAE/EPC) Performance Management and Optimization and Customer Experience Management. He is currently Head of Product Development at Turnotech (Pvt) Ltd. and is responsible for telecom products development. He has conducted several training for telecom professionals on 3GPP IMS, Advanced IP Multimedia Networks, Video Delivery Architecture in NGN, etc. He holds degrees in Computer Science, Management (Executive-MBA) and PMP Certification from PMI USA.
